Mellow network in Ride
This test build uses the committed Mellow Bike Map fixture from 25 January 2026, joined by exact OpenStreetMap way ID to Illinois geometry from 13 October 2026. The fixture commit describes a December 2025 OSM update. These dates do not mean the streets were inspected then.
Legend
- Teal solid: curated paths
- Blue dotted: Mellow streets
- Blue dashed: main roads included in the Mellow network
Ride calculates routes on this device using the downloaded Chicago–Milwaukee Valhalla graph. The default profile applies geographic Mellow preferences inside the curated area and Quiet costs outside it. Mellow compares its candidate with an ordinary bicycle reference and defaults to a 25% distance allowance, adjustable in Settings. This is not the original Mellow routing algorithm and does not search every possible alternative. A candidate beyond the allowance uses the reference route. Missing routing data requires an explicit download; there is no cloud routing fallback.
Coverage and limitations
12,549 of 12,953 unique fixture ways have matching geometry (96.88%). The 404 unresolved IDs are omitted, with no guessed replacements. Coverage is in and around Chicago. Historical labels are not guarantees of current access, safety, construction or comfort. Bicycle access, one-way rules and turn restrictions are interpreted from the downloaded routing graph and may be incomplete or outdated.
